1. The Northern Style
Also known as Floating style, this is one of the most popular casual styles to drape a Saree in. It is a simple style where you drape the saree the common traditional way with pleats in the front and keep the pallu open along your shoulder as well as your arm.
Tip: Choose this style, if you do not want attention on your blouse and have a very beautiful palla to flaunt.
2. Short Floating Style
A little modification, you can keep the palla pleated a little on your your elbow to keep your arms free. The saree is draped in the same way with pleats in the front.
Tip: Go for this one if you want to accentuate the border of your palla by showing it twice in the same style.
3. The Retro Double Drape
Picture our beautiful Mumtaz in one of the retro Drapes and you are right there. The trick is you get the pleats early without draping your saree much and then drape it around the pleats by keeping the border visible at different heights. This one does make movement a lil bit hassle though!!
Tip: Go for this style if you love the border on your saree. Prints are a no no with this style.

Traditionally coming from Andhra Pradesh, this style is popular as being a perfect professional Indian Attire. The saree is typically worn and well draped. The palla of the saree is cleanly and aesthetically pleated in the shoulder and pinned to the shoulder. You can use a beautiful brooch to accessorise the style. It is definitely one of the most comfortable drape style.
5. Saree with Pants
Brought into Indian fashion by our very own Anamika Khana, this is one of the indo-western styles of draping a saree. We do give you the steps handy here:
- There is no need to wear a petticoat instead wear a pair of leggings or pants.
- Take the pallu of the saree and pleat it over you shoulder as per your length.
- Bring the other side of saree around you and tug it neatly in the waist.
- Now pleat the remaining middle part of your saree neatly in the middle and tuck them nicely in the pants.
Tip: You can team this style with a jacket or your favourite Belt!!
6. Dhoti Style
Another indo-western design, this style evolved from the traditional Marathi saree. To make it easy, the saree is draped over dhoti pants. Tuck these the same way as the pant style, just wear dhoti pants this time underneath!!!!
7. The Mermaid Style
To give a look of the mermaid gown, this style is worn to accentuate curves at the hip section and give a flare at the bottom. This one makes movement very easy and is perfect for wedding parties or evening dinners. Take use of this link to get an insight as to how to tie this one!!

8. Skirt Style
You can also drape the sari like a skirt and get your pallu stitched separately with the skirt. Team this style up with beautiful kamarbands and other embellished accessories.
9. Short Patli
One of the most popular style to keep your sari a casual outfit is to have it nicely pleated from the pallu side to have a short patli and pin in on the shoulder using a brooch.
Tip: This style becomes an instant hit if you are wearing a beautiful blouse and want to show it off.
10. Extremely Short Patli
Casual Sarees have undergone another change by keeping the patli extremely short, hence changing the entire look of the outfit. This definitely adds an oomph factor as it goes midriff and doesn’t cover your whole torso. Make sure you have an extremely beautiful blouse and the patli should be well embellished or prominent.
11. Bollywood Styles
Bollywood has always given us great styles to wrap the sarees in. Clearly, Bollywood celebrities keep trying new ideas and influence us in trying them out too. Let’s have a look at what new we’ve got:

Deepika clearly gave us a new glam drape in ‘Badtameez Dil’. The saree has a curve out at the hip, with the pleats in the middle and then again the border taken back from the top, tucked in the waist back again.
2. Front Drape by Sonam
Sonam has always tried new styles when it comes to draping a saree. She wore a beautiful Anamika Khanna piece draping the pallu like a dupatta in the front making it one splendid idea for us to carry out some evening. Wear the palla back to front and drape it open across your torso.
3. The Modified Bengali Drape/ Double Border Drape
Jacqueline gave us a stunning look with the modified Bengali drape keeping the palla loose right from the bottom and drape it all through the front. Tip: Team it up with a jacket or a corset to look classy and elegant.
4. Half Float and Half Tucked Style
You can also keep your palla half tucked with a brooch and half allowed falling through the shoulder giving an extremely casual look to the saree. You can use other accessories as well.
