Pregnancy Style Tips for each Trimester
First Trimester (1 to 3 Months)
During the first trimester of pregnancy, you don’t have to change your wardrobe as your tummy will start to grow in the second trimester. You can continue to wear your most of the clothes excluding the tightest ones in the first trimester. If you can’t fit into your jeans or trouser, then try a Maternity Belly Band. Maternity Belly Band keeps your unbuttoned jeans or trouser up and just looks like an extended T-shirt.
Those who can’t afford to buy Maternity Belly Band can use these simple DIY to make Maternity Belly Band or use their regular jeans a little longer.
Maternity Belly Band:
Measure the biggest part of your stomach using a tape measure and minus 2? from that. For example: if your stomach measure 34?, then band should be made of 32?. Cut a rectangle of fabric according to your size and sew the edge of both long ends with zig zag stitch. Finally, hem one of the long-end with a zig-zag stitch and turn it right side out.
Extend Jeans or Trousers:
Take a hair tie and thread it through the button hole. Then, thread one end of hair tie through the other end.
Cut the waist band of jeans and seam rip side seams to 3-4 inches down. Put a similar color wide elastic and pin it. Finally, sew the elastic.
If you do not want to do DIY then various type of maternity jeans are also available on online shopping website.
Second Trimester (4 to 6 Months)
As your belly starts to grow during Second Trimester, you will feel uncomfortable in your regular clothes. So, you need to change your wardrobe.
Maxi Dress & Floor Length Gown
Maxi dresses & floor length gowns are perfect for hiding baby bump. These loose fitting dresses & gowns are light weight and have plenty of room for tummy. V-neck, A-line or empire waist maxi dresses and gown look great on pregnant women.
Jeans & Trousers
Instead of wearing non-maternity over size jeans, go for maternity jeans. Maternity jeans is similar to your low-waist jeans till hips but have an attached cotton stretchable jersey material panel to cover & support your growing belly. You can wear kurtis and different types of tops with jeans and trousers.
You can make your own maternity jeans at home. All you need is an old t-shirt or tank top and jeans.
Cut a half circle on the front of the jeans, removing most of the zipper and the metal rivets at the pockets. Make a Maternity Belly Band following the above given DIY steps and then pin it onto the jeans. Lastly, stitch them together.
You can wear tunics, spaghetti tops, printed tops, empire waist tops, kaftan tops, wrap tops, baby doll tops, tank tops, shirts, blouse, etc with jeans, trousers, skirts or capris. These types of tops look trendy and cover the growing belly.
Wrap dresses are the best friend of pregnant women as you can readjust the fit by securing the dress tie. Buy wrap dress made up of jersey and other stretchy, blended material. Wrap dress can be used after pregnancy also.
Keep your wardrobe stocked with regular or maternity leggings. You can wear leggings with long dress shirts, tunics, kaftans and kurtis. Maternity leggings have high waistband that stretch over your bump. If you are wearing the regular leggings, then push the waistband beneath your bump.
Skirts and Dresses
Maternity skirts and dresses provide enough ventilation for your fluctuating body temperature during pregnancy. Wear dark color A-line dresses and maternity skirts.
Anarkali suits with empire-waists not only look elegant but also hide your growing bump. You can also opt for A-line kurtas paired with tight chudidar. Women those who love salwar suit can wear long kameez to hide bump.
Wearing a saree makes you look adorable and even conceals a baby bump. You can wear a saree in different styles to hide the bump.
Third Trimester (7 to 9 Months)
During the third trimester, you will feel warmer than usual so wear natural fabrics. Natural fabrics like cotton or linens let your skin to breathe. Comfort is must in this stage of pregnancy.
You can wear any outfits or clothes mentioned above in the second trimester but maxi dresses, skirts, empire waist dresses/gown and A-line dresses are more preferable. Wear black, navy blue, dark brown and charcoal color outfits to look slimmer.
You can also wear night gown or kurti teamed with maternity trouser, leggings or salwars.
BONUS DIY: Stretchy wrap
Stretchy wrap not only gives support to belly but also provides you relief from the pain in the third trimester.
1. First of all hold one end of stretchy, cotton/jersey wrap to hip and then, position it over belly.
2. Hold the wrap in place and start wrapping process. Make sure that you keep your belly sucked in during the process.
3. After wrapping once, wrap it two more times. You must end on the side you started the process.
